Farm Livin' Is The Life For Me!!

A short while ago, I had a LONG post on Hospitality. People shared in the comments on what they believed hospitality to be. As I was checking out my calendar for today, I noticed that the picture was about hospitality. The Institute of Basic Life Principles has beautiful pictures talking about character qualities. I liked what this one said... "Hospitality is making sure the environment is suitable for those I serve." What do you all think about that one?
I took a short walk outside today. It is really chilly and overcast. The last three days have been in the low 50's, very overcast and some light rain. I started down our lane. There are hardly any colored leaves. Usually the ground and lane are covered with them. Here is one of the trees that has leaves turning. Most of them just go to crunchy brown like this.

I love sassafrass leaves. Here is a couple on a wee little sassafrass sapling. I love their shape. They remind me of a weird mitten. =)

We had put the calves over in an area where our berries are, etc. There was lots of long grass over there and their pasture was pathetic. Here is clover hiding in the tall weeds on the other side of her new pasture. Look down near the bottom of the wagon wheel. There is a pumpkin plant growing there. I had pumpkins set out there last year for decoration. They rotted there. This is a volunteer from those seeds. However, what is growing on them does not look like pumpkins. They are long.
Here is a picture of one of the fruits on the plant you see above. What do you think? Pumpkin or something else?
My petunias are always one of the last of my flowers to give up in the fall. They are still blooming well, even without much water.

As I was taking my walk, I looked around. I had all 3 dogs with me. Then I heard something in the woods on my left. I looked over and saw the cat making its way with us, but staying in the underbrush and away from the dogs. Can you see it?
On the way back up the lane, this cat was waiting for us. As the dogs came close and sniffed, it went up the tree a bit.
This is a really good picture of the puppy.... all but one thing.... Click on the picture, enlarge it and see what she is playing with... YUCK!!!!

Oh, she is just a gorgeous puppy :) (I'll ignore the mouse!) The "pumpkin" looks more like a zucchini... then again, it could just be a cross between a pumpkin and something else. Interesting!

That is what those leaves look like. They look a little like tulip. I will have to look closer at them in the woods.

What beautiful pictures! I have taken one from a previous post (with all the trees) and made it my background for a while. It makes me feel like we are sharing a bit of the earth together. :-)

You know, I don't like the word hospitality anymore. Let me tell you why. About 12 years ago, my older sister, her 3 boys and my mother all came to visit. At the time, my husband was working 90 hours a week and I had two little ones -- 3 and 1 years old. I had never cooked three meals a day for so many! Anyway, they stayed with me for 10 days. And during that time, they decided that I had lost all southern hospitality. And they told me. It made me feel horribly embarrassed, hurt, and really kind of confused too. There was just no way that I could do it all.

Since then, I have not liked the word just because perceptions of hospitality can be so subjective.

Just my story.
