Count Your Blessings Monday

I am giving us an opportunity every Monday to not only count our blessings, but to share them with others. This is a way that we can encourage one another. Make a post on your blog telling us about your blessing. Please put a link back to this post. You can add the URL of your blog post on Mr. Linky below. Many of our blessings we will have pictures of and we can share those as well. I think that many times we forget that it is a blessing to be able to breath, to get out of bed, to hold a baby... Share your blessings with us.

Today my blessing is God's Word. We don't even realize how blessed we are in this country to have the freedom of owning a Bible. Our home has many Bibles. We each have one and then we have several different translations. The latest Bible we added was my Mom's. It is the New Living Translation. This is a book written a long time ago by men who were inspired and led by the Holy Spirit. This is God's love letter to us. It is God's instruction book for ANYTHING we want to do in life. It is living and alive for today. I thought I had blogged about this story once before, but I can't find it in my archives. So, I will tell it again.

When we lived in Florida, we wanted to buy some wheat. In order for the truck to go all the way down there, we had to buy a large quantity. We had a hard time finding people who were willing to buy large quantities with us. We finally found some families and we ordered our wheat. It came and we were so excited. We had bought enough to last us for quite some time, because we were not sure when we would be able to find people to buy it with us again. We had only had it a short time and I got a phone call from a man. He told me that he had heard we had wheat and he wanted to buy some. My first thoughts were, "over my dead body!!" I told him that I would have to talk to my husband and we would call him back. I was rehearsing to my husband all the reasons why we needed to keep this grain and not sell it. He said we would pray about it. The next day I was reading my Bible. At the time I was reading the Bible through in a year and it was right where I was supposed to read for that day. I saw this verse... Prov 11:26 People curse the man who hoards grain, but blessing crowns him who is willing to sell. Now that verse was written a long time before I ever read it. I had read it before and it did not really mean much to me. However, that day, it was a clear message from God that we were to be willing to sell our grain. We did sell to that man. It ended up that we ran a state wide co-op for grains and other foods. When we moved to Ohio, we moved several thousand pounds of grains and beans, etc. with us.

After taking in all the information last week, I have been chewing on it and trying to digest it. I have had some very meaningful times with the Lord. He has spoken to me from His Word.

The Bible can be used to battle the devil. That is what Jesus used when satan tried to tempt Him. He said, "It is written..." Also, if we hide the Word in our heart (memorize Scripture) it helps us to not sin. If we meditate on it, we are guaranteed success in what we undertake.

There are places around the world where having a Bible is illegal. They have single pages of God's Word that they treasure and pass around. Bible's are so available in this country that we do not treasure them as the priceless treasure they are. Many people carry theirs to church and that is the only time they are touched. They collect dust at home. Open your Bible. Start reading it. Ask the Lord to reveal Himself to you through it's pages. Yes, having a Bible is a great blessing!!

Marci,
Thanks for sharing the story about the Word smacking you in the forehead. I had a similar experience when I was participating in the Weigh Down Workshop years ago. One day I decided I wasn't going to follow the guidelines. I didn't care if I ate when I wasn't hungry. I didn't care if I too much. I just didn't care. However, I would certainly do my Bible study that day. Doing things half-way is ok, right? So I opened my Bible at random - or so I thought. The very first verse I laid my eyes on was Isaiah 46:12. Talk about smacking me right in the forehead!! I was immediately humbled. :)

I agree! We are so blessed in this country and take so much for granted.

I treasure our Bibles. I have one in particular that I use in my daily readings and it is starting to fall apart, but I have so many verses marked and I love going through and reading some of those I marked years ago. I have found many answers that were needed in God's Word.

Thank you for sharing your story. :-)
