We are very blessed to live on a farm. We love old fashioned ways of doing things that seem to be fading away. We realize that this lifestyle is not for everyone but we are very grateful that God allows us to enjoy it.

More on Health & Health Care
I would love to hear what you think about this video. Please watch it and leave your comments.
well it is an ad for selling something Marci. Being a nurse I have a lot of thoughts about our health care. 1st off you can prove just about anything with "Statistics". The main thing is people should educate themselves about their body, how it works & what it needs. NEVER ignore your own instincts about your body no matter what a doctor might say. Eating right, keeping your weight in check, and being spiritualy healthy are basics to anyone. There are gentic disorders & that is where I think meds come in. Yes health care is a big money maker but it is THE WORLD we live in. We have to realize that Satan infiltrates everything in order to corrupt & destroy lives. GOD is the answer to every problem our country & world faces but it starts with each of us just doing what is right & going on with it. Dont you think. Oh I have a golf cart but I dont use it to go to the line unless I'm going to the building. I was just out riding taking pictures. LOL
I agree; to fully comprehend the video one must understand where the facts and figures are coming from, taking into account that everyone (and every company) is trying to promote their OWN best interests. The only ones truly looking out for *our* best interests are God and our families.
Many of the problems are caused by the culture we now live in. Everything from the extreme car culture we now live in (lack of exercise, introduction of toxins, catering to the whims of not only the gas companies but the insurance, repair, auto industries) to the fast-food mentality have been structured to make us think these things are *deserved* or earned or mean we're making our life better because we have to put out less effort. We have also fallen victim to impatience - I find myself impatient when I have to wait to pull into traffic, when I'm behind someone slow... it's really not a matter of life and death (usually) if we get somewhere FIVE MINUTES later! All of these stresses have led to further health imbalances... I agree strongly that taking control of our own choices is best in many cases - local food, cooking from scratch, taking our time (for me this includes bicycling to the store when possible), giving a lot more consideration to what we eat, where it came from, how it got there, and what might be in it (chemicals).
Hi Marci, This is why we choose to stay out of the conventional health system and learn what we can about healing with natural things and taking better care of our bodies. I have watched my Mom deteriorate from all the drugs they are giving her, and when she has a side effect she's given some other drug to take care of that -- giving her another side effect. It has been terrible.
I am also a nurse, and I tend to believe that this video is not too far off base. You can prove just about anything with statistics. The sad thing is, there are statistics out there that we all need to know about. We just don't look for them.
I have conflicting feelings about the clip. While conventional medicine has definitely saved some of my loved ones lives, I also wonder whether some of our ailments have more to do with our life styles and less about health issues that need drugs. With the ease of taking a drug to "quick-fix" our lives, perhaps we don't often look deep enough into fixing our lives instead as a way to better health. And conventional doctors are certainly willing to prescribe another pill or ointment to fix a symptom. Having said all this, where would we be without all the conventional medicine/wisdom today?
I think if we treat our bodies as the temple of God, not smoking, abstaining from alcohol, watching our weight, living as healthy as we can, many of our health problems would be eliminated.....also asking questions as to the medication prescribed and the side effects....taking charge.
Thanks for visiting with me...the song story was adorable. When presented a picture drawn by a child, I always say, "tell me about the picture". At times I thought the picture was a tree when it was a person.......please come again...Betty
Hm.. I'd have to mostly agree. MOST people I know pursuing conventional medicine avenues get a short-term benefit: Their pain goes away, their blood pressure lowers, their blood sugars stabilize. But so far I"ve seen nothing but trade-offs, with some other aspect of their health going south. And yes, even dying. Many doctors are there to help, but they are primarily trained in one way, and that way doesn't usually take into account one's diet (REALLY - not just the # of calories, but exactly what you're eating, what IT ate, and how things were grown). It's hard for me to believe that pharmaceutical companies really have anyone's best interest in mind, especially if it counters their bottom-line goal.
And yeah, the video promotes subscribing to Mercola.com, but that's free, and you don't ever have to buy anything...
By the way, I am enjoying what I've seen of your blog. We also raise our own food as much as we can, and it's always interesting!

But I still don't trust doctors and hospitals.
