Berry Pickers

Yesterday, I got a pleasant surprise. There was a knock on my door accompanied by many young voices. The neighbor children had come to tell me they were going to pick my berries for me. You can see they each had a handy dandy cup attached to their body. Then they had a big bucket to empty them into. They always think of neat little inventions to make life easier. They brought me back quite a few blackberries and then went to get the black raspberries. Well, they were at the end of their cycle and the birds had done there work, so they ony had a small handful of them. I think I may have enough blackberries to make jam. That is what my Dad loves most. I give him a jar almost each time I see him. Here is a picture of my wonderful berry pickers.

We have a hen that defies being caught or should I say penned. We have caught her three times and given her to the neighbors. Each time she has escaped and come back over here. Well this last time, she was only back for a couple of days and we saw her with a chick. She has hatched other chicks as well. I saw her sleeping over in the sun with the chick in front of her. If she sees us, she goes running, so I used my telephoto lens to get this picture of her. If you look closely, you can see the little yellow chick in front of her.

Thanks for the comments at my blog, Marci. I've spent some time here at your blog and it's wonderful. I really enjoy all the pictures from your farm. I'll have to live my dream of farm living through you, lol!

Marci, your berry pickers appear to be quite eager!! What a sweet service. The hen must be very comfortable at your place. I am so anxious to have chickens again. The colors of the fresh eggs can be quite amazing.
