Milking

Regina asked: How much milk are you getting each day? Are you milking twice a day?

We only milk once a day. We really watch their udder to see if that is going to be possible. We would milk out some in the morning if we had to. With Buttercup, milking once a day we could get up to 4 gallons. This is Honey's first lactation and she is still not totally settled in. We get somewhere between 2 and 2.5 gallons. Sometimes we get a bit more and sometimes a bit less. That still gives us plenty of milk for the things we use it for. It is not enough however, to raise some calves and to raise some pigs. We are still hoping that Buttercup is pregnant. If she is, then we will have plenty of milk to get some calves going and to do some pigs.
