Time to Start Cold Weather Projects

Once the weather turns cold, then I need to get busy with some winter projects. The hat and mittens were made 2 years ago for one of my little friends on her first birthday. I have several more things like that I want to make and need to get busy. My favorite book is called "All The Places To Love" It is a wonderful book full of very photo like paintings. It starts off with a Mom in her own quilt covered bed having just given birth. The Grandma is holding the baby up to the window. It says the Grandma wrapped the baby in a blanket made from the wool of her very own sheep. I want to do that with my first Grandbaby. Now, my son is not married, nor even courting anyone, but I KNOW how long it seems to take me to spin yarn, so I need to start now. I have lots of roving, I just need to spin it. I also have someone who will weave me a blue gingham shawl from my own wool, if I will spin the yarn and send her some fleeces in exchange. So, spinning is going to be high on my list of things to do this winter. I am knitting a scarf for myself. This will be the third winter to work on it. I hope to finish it this year. I am not a very good knitter. I learned to crochet young and do it well. I feel really awkward with 2 needles and the yarn. Also, the pattern I am using is one that I can't just whip through. I have to pay attention and count. So, when anyone else is around, I can't work on it, or I get mixed up. =) Let me hear what type of projects you will be working on this winter!!

The last 2 pictures are just more pictures of the autumn colors around here. Star decided to sit down in front of my little corner garden, and so I snapped her picture.

Beautiful pictures Marci! I just love the one with the dog. That would be a beautiful framed picture! Yeah it turning cold here too. Right nippy walking Roxy this morning. My son is in Ohio and he talked like they might get some snow today. Have not heard no weather report tho.
Enjoyed your post today. Hope you have a great day. Take care and stay safe.

God Bless!

Hi Marci! I tried to learn knitting from a friend several years ago and finally gave up after finding myself all thumbs. Then I tried crocheting with which I am more comfortable but since I'm trying to learn on my own the progress is extremely slooooow. I'll be doing a bit of that this winter as well as teaching Anna-Rose how to stitch. Right now I'm making pomanders with apples and cloves to make the house smell nice.

As always Marci those are some wonderful pictures. I think I remember seeing that hat and mitten set before. I have made a sweater set fo #3 and I am working on a sweater for Elisabeth (all crocheted). I am also working on a blanket for Titus with a horse on it. All this while trying to pack and trying to find a place to move to! Oh well...at least I have crochet to go to when I need a break. ;)

Marci, I just finished two little crocheted sweaters for one of Lisa's friends that is going to have twin girls. I will post a picture of them before they leave here. It's no telling what I will be crocheting or knitting this winter. One or the other is always going on here at my house. I love the little pink hat and mittens.

Beautiful pictures!! I always admire people who can knit...I remember learning in my Home Economics class in High School but once I finished school I never tried again and now I wouldn't know how to even start!!

This post reminds me of my teenage years visiting the State Farm Show in PA in the winter. Friends of mine raised sheep and often participated in the "Sheep to Shawl" contest. Very enlightening. I wish I was so talented.

Marci I am not a creative person at all. The winter is pretty busy here. We are involved in pecans right on. After harvest there is clean up & pruning...always something. So with my non-creative self...there are no plans of anything for the winter. Wish I could sew or knitt!
