More This and That...

We got our turkey poults yesterday. They are much more fun than the chicks. They are not nearly as afraid of you as chicks are. Their peep is so different and they have the ability to sing. Many times if you are outside, you will hear one of them singing a solo. We have already lost 2 thanks to our cat. I really don't like cats so this really made me not happy. We had lost some chicks and couldn't figure out if it was the cat or something else. Well, he got caught in the act so to speak. We fixed the brooder, so that he can't get up next to the chicken wire anymore. These birds will be ready the week of Thanksgiving.

I liked how this picture turned out. I did not do anything to it, except crop it.

Here is one of the little guys.

Laura or someone had asked me about making Jewelweed tincture. Here are some pictures of the blooms on Jewelweed. They remind me of little frilly windsocks. Here is a link to learn how to make Jewelweed tincture and also oil to make salves or soap with.

There are still bees going in and out, so I guess they moved in. Thank you Lord for your many blessings!!!

Here it comes.....

It seems like you wait forever for things to ripen and grow in the garden. Then once it starts... look out!!! :) Well, I went out to chase a chicken out of the garden and brought this back in with me. It is our first zucchini, yellow squash and cucumbers. :)

I also went out and checked on my bluebird babies. You can see the beginning of blue in their feathers.

The Wonderful Neighbor children came over today to help me. Here are some of the blackberries they picked. They are just starting and some of these are HUGE!!

The younger WN boys picked red clover flowers for me. They did a great job and I have 3 trays full on the dehydrator.

These flowers are all out of our yard.

The older WN children also picked some jewelweed for me. I am going to make some tincture and some oil from it.

Our lettuce still has not gotten bitter. I picked another big bunch to put in the fridge. Tonight we are having a garden meal. We will have lettuce with cucumbers from our garden, zucchini and yellow squash and some broccoli from the WN's garden that they shared with me. YUM!!!

This And That

The sheep are getting very wooly. Here are 3 of the babies. Rachael is on the left, the lightest one is Josiah and the darker one is Kyle.

Brittany came over for a little bit yesterday. She offered to help me with some things. What a blessing!!! We were getting the house ready to show last night. I have been keeping it up pretty good, so there was not a lot to do. We went out in the herb garden and did a bit of harvesting. Here is some peppermint and some fennel hanging to dry. We also harvested some chamomile. I dried the flowers in my dehydrator. It made the house smell really nice.

My dear sweet Michael surprised me with this bouquet. There are sunflowers, roses, lilies and these darker flowers. They are very unusual, but very pretty. Does anyone know what they are called?

My Mom gave me this pig probably around 20 years ago. I did not have it our for a long time and ran across it again. I love reminders of my Mom. I hung it in my kitchen. There is a hole in the top of the head to put a plant in. I am having a hard time finding a small house plant. I was thinking maybe Baby Tears or something like that. I also was thinking that maybe I could make it one of those string holders. I am afraid to try to drill a hole in the mouth for the string to come out. Has anyone ever drilled in a piece of ceramic like this?

I really encourage you to check out the link on the sidebar for Vista Print. I have had another friend try it out. She thinks it is a deal as well. I have literally gotten a lot of free stuff just for shipping costs. They do a great job as well. I have gotten t-shirts, a hat, car door magnets, business card magnets, pens, business cards, a stamper, a banner and other items. When I first tried it I could only get their designs for free, but I uploaded my own logos. They sent me emails that let me get custom stuff with my logos for free. I did pay $4.99 for some business cards, but they did a great job on them.
