The broiler chicks are now 2 weeks old. They are just starting to go into the ugly stage. You may not see it in the picture, but you will see what I mean in the weeks to come. =) They are down to one light on and they have not had a cover on almost from the beginning since the temperatures were so warm. It is much cooler this week, but we hope to put them out on Saturday. We will probably turn the light off for good today. We had to go to a larger feeder since these guys can put away the food.
That Echinacea bud I showed you awhile back has still not totally opened. You can just now start to see some pink on it.
This is one of my Stella D' Oro lilies. For the life of me, I can't get a good clear picture of it. I have tried all different settings, times of day and still no good picture.
The Spiderwort is all blooming now as well.
Hi Marci! I miss having chickies. I think we're going to have to butcher these unproductive egg layers and start a new flock. We're only getting 2-3 eggs a day from 6 layers. We have spiderwort, too. I love blue and purple flowers. This year we have purple petunias all over the place. We're doing better with flowers than veggies. Dwayne built a beautiful 4x8 raised bed and marked it off in square foot sections. I planted it out and all that came up were the cucumbers, basil, some mesclun, and one radish. Plus I have tomatoes started indoors that are doing fine, thankfully. Think the wild birds ate the seeds? It's fenced off so the chooks aren't the guilty ones.

Little Red Hen just came out of hiding with 16 chicks! They are so cute. I love your photos, especially the flowers. They are so beautiful! Have fun with the chicks!
ReplyDelete2 Easters ago, our little ones were given 2 baby ducks as a surprise :( We had no place to put them except in the utility room and then the garage. Needless to say, if we had lived on a farm, they would have been fun. We live in town, and they were a stinky mess. Everytime you show pictures of your chicks, the smell of baby ducks overwhelms me - lol!
ReplyDeleteI miss the chickens that we had in Iowa. My husband is retiring from the military next year, hopefully, we can purchase a few acres and once again have our little flock of birds.
ReplyDeleteEmily, I am not sure what could have gotten them. Some of my stuff did not come up to well this year and also my friend Ginny (who is a great gardener) had quite a few things that just didn't come up this year.
