Life On The Farm...

Today was a bit slower than yesterday. I am grateful for that. The weather has been simply gorgeous. Our frost date for this area is around Sept. 20th. We have not had a frost yet. I don't know how not having a frost will affect the leaves changing. I know that rainfall and temperatures and other things determine what sort of color we get. If you notice in this first picture, there is a tree behind the other tree. It is just turning brown like its dead. A lot of the trees along this tree line are hickory. They never get really pretty anyway. They get a dirty sort of yellow. =)

Here is a picture to show you how big the puppy is getting. Dixie is on the left and Star is on the right.

I was playing with my telephoto lens. These cows are way up on the hill behind the barn. They see Michael coming and are waiting on him to give them another slice of pasture.

Here is something that I painted way back in 1990. I always forget to get it out in the fall. I ran across it not that long ago, so I actually remembered to get it out and hang it up this year.

This is the three kittens. They need to go away, but they will not be caught. If they would stay out in the barn and catch mice and things, they would not have to go away. However, they hang out by the house waiting for someone to feed them. Useless.....

I am so disappointed that the leaves aren't going to be real vibrant this fall, at least, they don't appear to be. I love you painting, but...I have always loved things you paint. :D

I must say I love your blog. It's so nice to read about a farmers life, I'm as far away from it as possible. Hope you're doing OK and that you have a great weekend.

We just had a stray cat roundup. We caught them in cages and took them down to the county animal shelter. I took one a day for a week. By the time the last one was taken the people behind the desk were rude. I think they were telling me not to come back with any more cats and kittens. I filled up all of their holding crates and some spares. Ooops. LOL We do have one cat. He is fixed. He was a stray that could not have been more than 4 weeks old when my girls found him. We do feed him but he is also an excellent hunter. He brings his offerings and leaves them at the back door. This is not a good thing. LOL

Cats are not useless! Why don't you try feeding them at the barn this way they won't be hanging out at the house. They can not and should not just survive on mice and things. They require food, fresh water and love.Just like every living animal that God has created.True holiness is found not in temples and palaces, but in the humblest, poorest, most ordinary places-and in the people and the creatures that the world most often take for granted.A quote by Ptolemy Tompkins. God wouldn't say just go away to any human or creature.

Dear Anonymous, does it frighten you to leave your name? We do feed the cats in the barn. We do feed them and make sure they have water. We have tried to catch the wild mom cat to get her fixed, but have not succeeded. Just because cats are not our favorite animal around here, does it mean that we are mean to them. I am sorry we portrayed it that way.
