Show & Tell Friday

Kelli hosts a show and tell Friday. Do you have a something special to share with us? It could be a trinket from grade school, a piece of jewelry, an antique find. Your show and tell can be old or new. Use your imagination and dig through those old boxes in your closet if you have to! Feel free to share pictures and if there's a story behind your special something, that's even better!

Joshua our son is very good at what he does. He is 23 years old and already has a great reputation for his craftsmanship. He does contracters work and remodeling things. Most of his jobs now come from word of mouth recommendations from people he has done work for. I believe one of the reasons that he is so good, is that he has a cabinet makers eye and heart. He wants everything plumb and square. When he picks out wood to make things, he doesn't just look for straight boards. He looks at the patterns in the wood, the flame, the character of the wood. We have friends that started off as customers for our meats. They were expecting another child and wanted a cradle made. Joshua was 18 years old, but they asked him to make it. They let him choose the style of cradle that he liked. When Joshua was talking to the husband, he asked Joshua questions that drew out of him what sort of wood that Joshua like to work with. Joshua told him that one day he wanted to make something with cherry, but to not stain it dark, but just put a clear finish on it. That is what they ordered their cradle in. Special thanks to Mark & Tracy for their friendship and for giving Joshua a chance to do something special. Here is the cradle he made for them. Remember, he had just turned 18. If you click on the picture, it will show you a larger view of it and you can see more detail.

  5. Just wonderful! I'm so proud that there are still 18 year old boys around who will do stuff like this! He did an excellent job! Will you possibly be able to show us some his recent work?

I think the quilt hanging a a background for the photowas a really neat idea as well!

I scrolled down and caught up with your blog. I haven't been here in awhile. I love your little Aussie! The first full bred dog we ever bought was a tri-colored Aussie! We loved that dog so much. Yours is a cutie!

Oh one more thing (sorry so long) our dog would corral the children in my home day care onto my couch and pace back and forth now allowing anyone to get down while I vacuumed the room! Everyone thought that was hilarious! If a wee one tried to wiggle down off the couch, Poochi Bear would nab them with his nose and push. He was "herding" the babies! LOL

  8. This simply takes my breath away. There is something inside of me that wants to run my hands along the wood, I guess that's kind of weird huh? But still I can't help it. The craftsmanship in this piece is amazing. Also I'm praying that the Lord gives you a truck. It's funny we have a truck and want a farm and you have a farm and want a truck, maybe someday we will both have both.

  9. That is gorgeous - I'm sure they were so happy to put their baby in that special cradle - I love cherry wood.

To answer your question about my blog header - I made it in MS Publisher, saved it as a jpeg file and then I could open it up in HP Image Zone (a program that came with my printer). There I could crop and resize it to fit in. Thanks for asking - I'm real tickled with how it turned out. I just like to play and dabble in graphics! Thanks!
